Stop thinking and start doing! Procrastination can be a killer. I finally bit the bullet and bought myself a Kindle 3G with wireless. Why was I hesitating for so long when it would be something I would use alot? Haven’t you heard so many people say “why didn’t I do this a long time ago”? Well, that is how I feel now. It was worth waiting for and I use it most days for reading or researching.
I remember telling my sister about wanting to buy one and wondered what she thought about them. A Kindle was only something that she had heard about, never seen one and really didn’t know much about them or what they were capable of doing. Maybe it was not a good idea to ask her. She said she probably wouldn’t get one because she liked the feel of a book in her hands. I can relate to that but some books are big and heavy and your hands get tired holding one up all the time, especially when you have one of the larger, thicker paperbacks. We live on opposite sides of the world and plan to meet up in October. Of course, I will be taking my Kindle with me for those long haul flights as I would be lost without a book. So she will get a chance to see one, have a play and maybe even change her mind about owning one.
Living 2 hours away from any major shopping allows me to spend the whole day in town running here and there to get everything done on the huge list. One thing I really enjoy though is to sit down at my favorite coffee house for lunch and just enjoy the time to stop and read more of my latest book. The fact that I can just pop it into my handbag is fantastic without taking up alot of room. I’ve downsized my bag as I tended to overload it with so much stuff I really didn’t need. Being pencil-thin lets me slide it down the side and there’s plenty of room for everything else. I also keep checking the battery but it still goes strong and doesn’t need to be charged up as often as I find myself doing with my iPhone. What a nice change. As this is one device I want to last for a long time, I want to buy a protective cover from scratches and bumps.
It does seem a shame that alot of bookstores are closing down because there is more tendancy to have an ebook reader. I’ve never had the convenience of living close to town and the price of books seems to have skyrocketed over the past few years. When you can buy a bestseller from just under $10.00, have it downloaded to your Kindle 3G in under one minutes, why would you bother to spend $30 or more for a paperback or hardcover and the time and fuel to get to a store. It’s not a matter of being lazy. It’s being more economical in a time now where prices are just not stopping from going up and up. The price of your Kindle 3G is paid for in no time at all. Did you know there are over 800,000 books to choose from? Can’t say I’ve ever been in a bookstore that has that sort of inventory in it.
I live in Australia and I had my Kindle delivered in 3 days from ordering it! We don’t even get normal mail in that time, let along from overseas! I am very impressed with Amazon.
